The apartment is located in Zagreb, inside a building built in 1975. The building is characterized by load-bearing walls placed around the perimeter of the residential units, and the openings inside them are designed as high windows 200 cm high, divided into two fields. This brings a high-quality amount of lighting into the residential units, which is further improved by the green park surrounding the building.

We found the apartment as a space that was filled with partitions, a large amount of space was intended for the corridor, and thus its potential was unused. Programmatically, it was just as conceived as its new variation. It consisted of two bedrooms, a hallway, a bathroom, a pantry, a separate kitchen and a living room with a dining table.

Due to the distribution of the openings, the existing layout of the rooms seemed the most logical for the final solution of the apartment. The only condition and the starting point of the concept was to enhance the most influential part – the presence of light and the view of the trees through the openings. Thus the rooms escaped from the facade, they were placed in the middle of the apartment, surrounded by two communications - one service and one that may or may not be a part of the room, but it flows into other parts of the apartment - the so-called lounge. The lounge is designed like a street, a linear space with benches and lights that double and repeat themselves in the mirror.

The lounge is divided by sliding doors of the same width as the space itself. Doors regulate the flow of space - the boundaries of individual functions are emphasized or diluted. Space is divided, reprogrammed and regrouped.Thus, from the south side of the apartment, the space is maximally illuminated. Formerly minimally lit areas of the living room and bedrooms now receive double or triple the amount of light. The apartment thus becomes extremely vibrant and unpredictable, both in terms of use and in terms of the lighting that penetrates through the dense greenery.

 

On the other side, next to the northern load-bearing wall, there is a service block of the apartment, which consists of an entrance area, a bathroom and a kitchen. The footprint o the bathroom and entrance elements were reduced to the basic necessary dimensions, and the size of the kitchen was doubled.
