Sports and Recreation Center is conceived as the focal point of the sporting life of the city of Zaprešić and its residents. In this context, the circle—as a perfect geometric form—initiates a uniform spatial pulsation with the aim of creating a new urban place for gathering, sport, and recreation. Concentric circles, with the swimming pool as their center, expand evenly into the surrounding space, integrating it into a balanced and reciprocal coexistence.

The central hall of the Olympic swimming pool, covered by a circular shed-roof structure, dominates the space and establishes the parameters for shaping the competition site. In order to fully exploit the potential of its form, which allows for 360-degree views, the circle is defined by three radial volumes. Through their internal gardens, these volumes incorporate the surrounding flora as an integral part of their structure.

With the intention of further emphasizing the sports program, the first urban ring culminates in a 400-meter athletic track. By leveling the terrain and positioning the pool at a lower elevation, the design underscores the intention for the pool to be the generative point of the architectural complex.

Starting from the premise that the Olympic swimming pool is the central and sole programmatic element within the circular concept, the functional and spatial organization of the three accompanying volumes is clearly articulated. The northern volumes, positioned alongside the entrance plaza and the main traffic artery, accommodate the supporting facilities necessary for the operation of the complex.

The western volume is conceived on the ground floor as a locker-room block, while the upper floor is designated for food and beverage facilities with a terrace and amenities related to the outdoor pool. The eastern volume contains a wellness zone on the ground floor, with the upper level reserved for fitness and administrative spaces.

These two volumes define the entrance plaza, which spatially flows into the interior of the complex, establishing a direct visual connection with the Olympic swimming pool. At the upper level, between the volumes, spectator stands are positioned along the transverse axis of the pool. This spatial axis establishes a clear linear sequence—from the entrance plaza, through the entrance hall and the stands, across the Olympic pool hall, continuing toward the educational-rehabilitation pool and the non-swimmers’ pool located in the third volume, and finally terminating in the winter garden, which represents the spatial and visual culmination of the composition.
