Dubrava. A part of the city largely defined by low-rise construction and vaguely shaped and planned landscape areas is most often “arranged” and “defined” by compact points such as shopping centers or public-use buildings.

The location of the new school, at the edge between the informally developed, unregulated small-scale construction in the south and the planned student district in the north, is a point that connects two visually contrasting worlds. The primary school aims to adopt the clarity of the planned settlement in the north, while also embracing the diversity of residential yards in the south.

An elongated building is placed on the site, oriented east–west, clearly defining and differentiating the outdoor spaces. Like houses with a sequence of courtyards, the school becomes a building with a sequence of parks.

The parks are complemented by single-story pavilions placed within them. Three pavilions and one evacuation vertical element open up, zone, or enclose certain parts of the site from others.

The first, and closest to vehicular access, is the pavilion of service facilities and preschool units. It additionally encloses the garden of lower-grade classes and preschool units from the road.

The second, in the northern park, is the volume of the sports hall with a sports field measuring 40 × 22 m on the roof. It clearly defines the function of the northern part of the site as a sports park.

The third, like a bay projection in the southern park, is the volume of the library. It creates a covered space in the garden in front of the multipurpose hall and classrooms, while relocating the library user out of the building and placing them in the greenery, with a clear view of the newly formed garden.

The fourth and final volume is an external evacuation vertical, placed in the northern park. A light steel staircase, wrapped in white expanded metal mesh, positioned at the threshold between exterior and interior space.
